Content Management Tips

Below is a list of things to remember as you add content to your website after migration. These tips come directly from our Site Conventions.

  • Links
    • Links to websites on the *uncc.edu domain must open in the same window.
    • Links to websites on the *uncc.edu domain must use the "non-www" URL as per the subdomain standards.
    • Links to external websites must open in a new window.
    • Links must be embedded in the text.
    • Email addresses must be clickable.
    • PDF attachments are preferred and must be set to open in a new window.
    • All pages must appear in the navigation; orphaned content is not allowed.
    • All links must user lowercase letters and words must be separated by a dash.
  • Images
    • All images must have an alt tag.
    • When an image is used as a link (for example, buttons), add an advisory title.
    • Remove the "s" from "https://" in the image path.
    • Ensure that all lowercase letters are used in the image path and that words are separated by a dash.
    • All images should be resized before uploading them to the server. Don't rely on HTML width and height attributes.
    • Uploaded images should be a minimum of 72 dots per inch (DPI) in resolution.
  • Lexicon
    • References to the University must read as follows: "(The) University of North Carolina at Charlotte" or "UNC Charlotte". UNCC, UNC-C, and UNC-Charlotte must not be used.
    • The following types of content must use the following standardized format:
      • Room locations: [Building Name][space][Room or Suite Number][Suite Letter]
      • Phone numbers: 123-456-7890
      • Time: 8:00[space]AM[space][dash][space]5:00[space]PM
      • Long Dates: Day[comma][space]Month[space]Date[comma][space]Year
